2026 John Shaw Dinner: Master of Ceremonies Announced
|
We are delighted to announce that Waleed Aly will join us as Master of Ceremonies for the 2026 John Shaw Dinner on 7 May.
Waleed Aly is one of Australia’s most respected and versatile media figures. He is a broadcaster, author and academic. He is the co-host of The Minefield on ABC Radio National, a columnist for The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald, and for more than a decade, was co-host of Network 10’s The Project, which aired live on weeknights. He also appears regularly on both Insiders and Offsiders on ABC television. Waleed began lecturing in politics at Monash University in 2007, and now remains an adjunct and occasional guest lecturer. His written work has appeared in almost every major Australian newspaper, as well as internationally in The Guardian, The New York Times, and The Sunday Times of India.
Waleed’s work has won awards in all these fields, including a Walkley and multiple Quill awards, and several Logies including the Gold Logie, in addition to frequent nominations for all of these.

The John Shaw Dinner celebrates excellence in the transport sector, and is the most prestigious event on the industry calendar, attracting more than 750 leaders from across Australia.
In 2026, the event returns to the Crown Palladium in Melbourne and for the first time will be a formal black-tie dinner and awards evening.
The highest-honour of the evening, the John Shaw Medal, recognises an industry champion who has made significant and last contributions to the transport sector both in Australia and internationally.
